Is Google going to release a new web domain?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

I have a gmail account from back in the day when it was invite only, however my account name isn’t very professional so I wanted to get a new one. But seriously every combination of my name is taken without adding the entire alphabet or a string of numbers behind it. I’ve tried a lot of other email clients, and I just don’t like them as much as google’s. Has anyone heard if they will release a new domain? Like Yahoo released ymail?

Is asking the owner of a domain name to release the name a good idea!Could there be any bad repercussions?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

There is a certain domain name which I would like that is already taken! However, the site is no longer there! The domain name hosting company(Go Daddy) tells me I cannot get it unless the owner releases it! But is it a good idea to contact the owner and ask them to release it? What are the chances they will and what repercussions will that cause me? I have the same unusual name that is in their domain name!Could they keep me from using my name in another way if it is in their domain name? Example, If my name were Venola. They have venola.com I contact them and ask for them to release venola.com They return with a no we won’t! Can they then add that I can’t use venoIa in anyway, even with other words attached, say, venolaicecream.com If there are any lawyers out there knowledgeable in internet law please help! Thank you
