Understanding Linux and Windows Towards Web Hosting

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

A Linux based hosting service can be appreciated if you have a true understanding about it. Linux is an open source operating system. There are no licensing fees for it. So, compared to windows, Linux is very cheap. Windows have software activation rights. A single copy of windows can be installed only on one computer. In the case of Linux once you have owned the software copy, you are free to install the software as many times as you wish on various computers.

On the other hand, Windows has a monolithic design, whereby it creates a sort of interdependence between the various parts of the server. A practical example can be seen in windows media player and Microsoft Internet explorer. In the case of Linux, it is known for its open source community development. Due to its group oriented approach method, Linux can easily oppose the monolithic based design concept by creating an operating system made up of parts that are freely independent of each other.

Linux and windows can successfully run popular web technologies such as HTML, CSS DHTML, XHTML, XML, JAVA Script, JAVA, CGI and Perl. They can also support Email, FTP, reporting and other basic features too. Also, both the operating systems (Linux and windows ) can do a good job when it comes to interfacing with Microsoft front page. Linux deals with open source development method, such as PHP nad RUBY on rails. Mostly, the Linux based databases use MYSQL. On the other hand, windows deal with ASP and other Microsoft proprietary applications such as Microsoft exchange. Window based databases mostly rely on MS SQL. When it comes to talking about the security risks involved on servers, one must be aware of the fact that one cannot ensure a 100 % risk free security service. I am saying this because even today there exist unskilled server administrators; people involved in brute force password crackers, unsecured PHP or ASP scripts etc.

In a windows based system, it becomes easy for hackers to compromise and entire server. The IIS web server is deeply interconnected with the core of the windows. Hence, if a security threat is found in the IIS web server, it could lead to compromising the entire windows server. That is why, external browsers such as Mozilla, Fire Fox are considered to be safer for a window PC than the integrated Microsoft Internet Explorer. Now in the case of a Linux security based system, there exists a large as well as an educated security team. However, one must also be aware of the fact that there exists a group of educated community of hackers too.

Linux is mainly used for database servers and Internet servers. Many companies prefer to use Linux on their servers as an alternative to other operating systems. Linux can be considered as a very efficient, multi-user multitasking operating system. Linux is popular on the internet as well as by many small companies. Linux is very stable and it uses the resources very efficiently. Linux is compatible with Microsoft windows, whereby it can support fully access to windows file system. Linux runs efficiently on your present hardware. Your older machines can also work on Linux.

In other words, your old hardware which might have discarded just because it was in adequate for the latest software upgrades can now be a valuable resource for your company. You can put your hardware back in service with Linux. Web hosting service based on Linux is easy and cheaper than windows hosting. It is a better choice over windows.

Linux Web Hosting: a Comparative View of the Web Hosting Server With Others

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Indeed, complex features, like e-commerce, database utilities and bulky dynamic pages invite different nature of web hosting requirements than a much simpler and lighter web site. Obviously small scale web masters cannot afford to surpass their budgetary constraints in order to chase technology at its latest. In the given scenario, triggers on the search for cheap and efficient web hosting services for across the board scales and sizes of websites by their respective web masters. And as the quest for cheap web hosting services assumes pace, all hopes turn to Linux web host services for obvious reasons.

Linux web hosting, being an open source software product, is not only substantially cheaper, but also provides a lot of scope for customizations and enhancements at advanced stages. Apparently, Linux – based hosting is most popular with small scale business owners vying to make it big on World Wide Web.

Delving deeper into the advantages of Linux hosting over windows –based hosting reveals that there are different layers of reasons that put Linux –based web host services over and above the Windows –based web host services.

To begin with, the licensing fee for Linux hosting plan is way lower than Windows hosting that contributes to its cheaper status.

Further, Linux web hosting servers can support much more complex nature of websites with equal ease as they sustain the simpler websites. What’s most noteworthy about it is that quality is not at all compromised in the process.

Also, a Linux hosting server is conveniently convertible to a Windows based website without any hullabaloo.

Linux web host services are compatible with all kinds of web – based database systems, including My-SQL and MS-SQL. Likewise, all kinds of open source scripting languages like My-SQL, PHP and Perl can easily communicate with your website through Linux web hosting.

Not to mention, the extent of security offered by Linux based web hosting services is matchless, as compared to any other hosting service.

Given the breadth of advantages of Linux web hosting, coupled with both technology and ambitions on a rise; it is ubiquitously witnessed on a global scale that there are more companies working on the Linux hosting, than on any other web host services. Linux web hosting is an easily predictable future of all web host services, because it is safe, fast, friendly and cheap.

Finding Cheap Php Web Hosting On Linux Servers

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Linux and PHP are two of the “big” names in the world of information technology.  In fact, they usually go together, particularly in the world of web hosting.  For example, if you want to find cheap PHP web hosting on Linux servers, you can do this quite easily.  Linux, as an operating system, is frequently used by those offering budget web hosting, and PHP is one of the many dynamic programming languages that works very well with Linux (others being PERL and MySQL).

How do you find the most affordable PHP web hosting, though?  How do you find a web host that offers Linux servers?  A quick search through your preferred search engine will yield several million results – obviously not a good place to start, unless you simply have the time to browse several hundred of those results.  Even then, chances are good that you would not have scratched the surface of what is available.  A better option is to find a directory of web hosts that ranks those hosts based on their operating system and programming language support.

What will you learn from such a directory?  You can actually gain quite a wide range of information from these directories.  For example, under the heading Linux web hosting on the directory, you will be provided with a ranked list of different hosting providers.  You will find the provider’s name, as well as the name of the PHP/Linux plan they offer.  Other information immediately available includes the cost of the plan, the rating for the provider (as a percentage) and the geographic location of the company (the US, Britain, Mexico, etc).

However, while that is most certainly valuable information when searing for cheap web hosting on Linux servers, you should be aware of another ability these directories give you.  One of the most functional features is the “compare” feature offered.  This allows you to choose several of the top ranked web hosts and compare them on a side by side basis.  Doing so will offer you the best, most in-depth information about the various services offered, the prices for the plans and more.  This will help you ensure that you are able to find the best hosting plan, for the least amount of money, and with the fewest hassles possible.  These directories make finding the perfect web hosting company a surprisingly simple process that can take very little time.
