Expired Good Domain Names Are Real Estate To Keep On Watch Always

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Let’s face it that expired domain names are valuable just like real estates. The biggest problem that will hit e-commerce businesses is the shortage of good dot com names. In the near future all the good ones will be taken.

But wait a minute…we won’t have a problem getting them. Why? You see not all the owners will maintain them and at one point they will abandon them by not renewing them. So, if they expire are they thrown away as garbage since they are unfit for use? Nope, they will be still fit for human use.

Before it’s available for fresh registration, it has to undergo some stages. First there will be a grace period of 30 days and at this period it can be renewed at the normal renewal price. After the grace period is over, it will be placed into 30 days redemption period.

After the redemption period, there will be 5 days on which it will be deleted from registrar records.  ICANN will drop it from its database there after there will be no Whois information regarding it. Now it’s available and anybody can register it to become the rightful owner.

Note that the grace period and redemption period is meant to safeguard the owner from losing it and once it enters this stage the fees to renew it will be significant. Many dealers are keeping their eyes glued on their PC screens. They are watching on good expired domain names that have just been made available for fresh registration. They find them to be viable business.

These dealers use software programs and services that email them daily these domains. After getting them, they appraise and register good ones. They later sell them at high prices.

As a new website owner, it will take time for your site to rank well on search engines. Again, you will be required to do a lot of marketing for it to be popular and this needs a substantial amount of money. Instead of undergoing all this, you can simply buy an expired domain name and use it on your site.

Again, it can be directed to your existing site if you had early on registered a bad quality domain name that is not getting the anticipated results you’re expecting. By doing this your site performance will greatly improve.

But before you rush and buy one, it is better you evaluate it first. Here are the factors to consider:

Consider the type of extension it has. A dot com works best because it’s popular among surfers.

Consider the inbound links. Are they from reputable websites?

Does this name qualify the good traits of a domain name?

Was it used by a site that was regarded as a spam by the search engines? If yes, avoid it.

Why these Domains are Real Estate

It has already been in use for some time and this implies that it’s popular among surfers.  Buying it means you own those surfers.

It is already listed in many directories hence search engines recognize it.

It could be the one that is being discussed on the forums and social book marking sites. Forum users could be seeing it as a valuable one.

Keep Your Hosting Cost Low on a Big Forum!

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Did you know its possible to host a site with a huge amount of daily visitors and posts for less than $20 a month! Yes and thats still with a fully managed shared hosting server. Of course that wont be possible if you have over 1 million posts, but it can still most likely keep you on a VPS.

There are a few key points that matter:

* Your bandwidth consumption

* The space your server uses

* Your mysql connections

How to reduce your bandwidth:

Bandwidth is the number of data your visitors transfer each time they visit your site. When a visitor loads a web page in your site, every data (images, downloaded files, texts) that is in that web page (and also in your server) costs you bandwidth. The more vistors you have makes you consume more bandwidth.

If you have a typical forum based site, you can expect your site to consume around 250 Gb. monthly consumption if you have around 10,000 daily visitors. This is wayyy too much! Here are the main things that consume bandwidth

Attachments: Attachments take up a huge amount of bandwidth! If you have a site that doesnt really need attachments, you should probably remove users permissions to use them.

Guests: Do you allow guests to lurk your site without registering? I wouldnt! Guests can be a huge reason your site takes up bandwidth also, they also take up mysql connections but youll read about them later. Dont let guests veiw all your sites images, or dont let them veiw any at all, and your bandwidth consumption will go way down.

Images: Okay I saved the best for last. Images are the BIGGEST reason your site takes up bandwidth! If you have a ton of styles uploaded to your server your likely to be taking up lots of bandwidth. Every image can take up over 200kb of bandwidth! Try using text instead of images, it will help alot!

Server Space:

If you are running a forum based site, your database will probably be the number one culprit of your server space eater. Especially if you have a large board, you’ll likely to have a large database as well. If your database (and other files in your server) takes much space in the server and exceeds the limits your hosting company set, you’ll be asked to move to a dedicated server so you must make sure your site does not occupy too much space if you want to stick with your cheap shared hosting package.

Attachments: Gee they are horrible huh, bandwidth and server space! Guess what, theyre probably the biggest way to lose server space. Remove em as said above, and you will do one of the biggest steps!

Custom Avatars: Theyre just like attachments, you upload them, dont let this happen! Get tons of avatars that you can choose, but NOT upload!

Posts: Do you have a spam zone where you let members make useless posts? Think again! Thats server space, bandwidth too! Its pointless, so dont do it.

Private Messaging: Prune private messages, they can pile up and take up server space so fast, dont keep them!

Mysql Connections:

Your shared hosts probably will only let you have 15 connections at a time. Thats every time a guest, spider, or user does anything that causes a page to reload. Thats right, GUESTS AND SPIDERS TOO! We cant deal with the spiders, but the guests are easy.

How to reduce guest lurking: Get a mod that allows you to block guests after viewing a certain amount of forums, they exist. If you dont, your server will get loads of connections and you will get an error whenever trying to refresh your page, along with this most hosts will make you move up to dedicated!

Keep Your Domain Safely In Site

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

With almost every kind of company requiring a web site these days, it’s easy to see why names are important. Domain name registration is vital for protecting a company from losing its rights to a site name and also for helping a company protect its trademarked names.

Unfortunately, for those not savvy with the Internet, the notion of getting started can be daunting. Figuring out how to register a domain name correctly can be a tricky undertaking. The Internet and its domain names are governed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN for short. This is an internationally recognized, nonprofit company that is responsible for Internet Protocol addresses, codes and more. It is with this agency Internet domain names and IP addresses must be registered to be valid.

Although ICANN oversees names and registration, it is not solely responsible for it. Instead, it uses a network of registration companies to perform these services for it. These companies range in what they offer and how they handle registration, but in general it’s a good idea to have your domain name purchased through one of these companies that will in turn register the name to ensure someone else can’t buy and use it.

Typically these companies offer not only registration services, but can also offer web site building, domain hosting and more. These one-stop shops are very popular among site owners and they tend to take the guesswork out of the process.

In general, once a domain name has been registered to a person or company, it is the property of that person or company. Some trademark issues may supercede this in some regions, but it’s a good idea for a business to buy up all its possible names and re-register them as necessary to prevent theft.

The reason behind the creation of ICANN is pretty easy to understand. With so many businesses, organizations, agencies and so on across the world using web sites to promote their products, services and missions, the naming conventions could be out of control if there wasn’t a central clearing house for this information. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, for example, wouldn’t want its site name sold to a marble-collecting club. And the Coca-Cola Company likely wouldn’t want Bob’s Cola owning its site name.

ICANN offers a number of different extensions to help ensure everyone who wants a domain name or several can protect their interests. Government agencies, for example, have rights to extensions that end in .gov and nonprofits tend to use the .org extension. The famous .coms belong to the realm of corporations and individuals. There are many more extensions as well, each with its own set of proper uses.

If you’d like to set up a web site and get a domain name registered, there are literally hundreds of different companies available to make this a reality. Just make certain you keep up with registration or the name you build your business on could be sold to another at a later date. Good companies will let you know when registration is coming up and the prices generally are more than reasonable.
